Thank the gods, it's been over a week and.
Update 08: Dim Adventurers in the Woods, Part 1 Spewing insults, pissing off all your neighbors, betraying your allies, backing out of treaties and accords, and generally screwing over the global environment? I know it's a bug, but it's also strange that it's only available in one place, because most other spells have a couple sources. Otherwise, just tag a couple skills you're actively using (Casting/Melee, Defense).Ĥ.) Mind Melt being removed from the game is odd. Generally speaking, it's not worth the hassle to try to activate a book more than once per character there are easier ways to raise skills than by spam-clicking to try to win a 10% chance.Ģ.) You mentioned abusing resting in traps to heal up for free, but you can also do the same thing in actual combat if you either chain-stun the last enemy standing (Despair Thy Eyes, the powder, etc) or just beat him up enough to wreck his accuracy.ģ.) You didn't go into detail about the skill system, but the effective tl dr is that any time you're doing training (e.g., like the combat guy in LaMut) or reading a book, you should 'tag' only the skills that will improve. The first use per character is guaranteed to work, but then after that, it's a static chance to actually gain the skill but said chance is fairly low. Just to address a few items that have been brought up:ġ.) Books have 100 uses. This was one of my favorite games growing up and glad to see it getting a proper LP treatment. Oooh, somehow I missed this one getting started, but glad I didn't miss too many updates. There's very little of it that isn't good or at least workable, and it's a step up over NAME, JOB, BYE. (guilt, guilt)ĭon't worry, you'll see Mind Melt in the next update, because while we can't get it, enemy casters use the same spell catalogue as the player.Īnd yeah, you know, I actually enjoy the volume of writing. This is supposed to be a completionist LP, after all. I've never minded a lot of reading in gaming or indeed any walk of life, so this is right up my street. That wasn't terribly common back in its era, and I enjoy the writing style. I rather like that this game is relatively verbose. THIS BADGE OF SHAME IS WORTH 0.45 DOUBLE DRAGON ADVANCES
He will give you the right password and allow you to finish the quest and get the spell. Just load your game, and go talk to the guy now.
The 6th digit will be a "4" (so, like, xx xx x4 xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx will be the full line). Go to line (or "offset") AC0 (listed as "00000AC0"). Then, open it with any simple hex editor.
This is a great spell, so I messed around with the hex a little and figured out how to fix/advance the quest REALLY simply.Īfter you start the quest, and are told "golden treasure" is the wrong password, make a save. Unfortunately, for some reason, in version 1.02 - the only version you will ever play, most likely - he is no longer at the house, and you cannot get he correct password, thus you can never finish this quest or get the "Mind Melt" spell. Originally, you go back to him, intimidate him, and he gives you the correct password - "diamond".
In one house, a "red haired" guy gives you a password to tell the guard house just north of him. This spell was ONLY available by completing a mini-quest in Dencamp on the Teeth. And (I think) the CD version - basically everything except the original floppy version. This is the version GoG has, as well as the free abandonware version from before that. Quote: So, as you know by now, the Mind Melt spell is "impossible" to get in the patched version 1.02 of the game.
